Frequently asked questions
I’ve built over 400 websites and they’ve all been incredibly different. Every project is different and requires a unique approach. So, there’s no ‘one-cost-fits all’. That said, most of my website projects are between £1,000+VAT – £2,500+VAT. See more about website prices here.
Again, it depends on the complexity of your website as well as other factors, but most websites are completed within 2-8 weeks. I’m very on the ball, I don’t hang around and I get things done efficiently. So, if you’re the same, we’ll have your website spot on in no time. See estimated website timescales here.
My process is tried and tested. It’s unique but my clients love it. You’ll have plenty of chances to provide feedback and I will advise and consult throughout the process. You can read my full website design process here.
I’m good at understanding briefs, taking inspiration from the websites you like and focusing on your goals – consequently, I get great feedback on the initial design 90% of the time. Design is subjective, so for the other 10%, we’ll have a conversation, identify areas of improvement and get the site how you want it. I want you to love your website, but I also want it to be functionally and aesthetically sound, so it’s all a collaboration process.
Once you’ve paid for the website it’s yours. I will host and maintain it as part of my website maintenance services (if required), but should you ever want to move the website to your own hosting, that’s absolutely fine.
If you chose to use my website copywriting services you do not need to provide me with text for your website. I may need a few stats and bits of information, but I’ll take care of the text creation. If you choose to write your own website content, that’s absolutely fine. To do this, you can refer to my website copywriting guide.
I do! Not only can I build your website and write the content, I can provide you with SEO services to get you more relevant website visitors and customers.
I do indeed. I work exclusively with WordPress.
Not at all. Many clients know their current website is not working well but are unsure whether they need a redesign, SEO, better content or ongoing support. Tell me what you want the website to achieve, and I’ll recommend the most sensible way forward.
I’m based at St George’s Works on Colegate in Norwich, Norfolk. I work with businesses throughout the UK and overseas, so location is rarely a problem. Most meetings are held by video call, making it easy to work together wherever you are.
Yes, where it is convenient for both of us. We can meet at my Norwich office or arrange another suitable location. Most clients are equally happy using video calls, telephone calls and email, so we can communicate in whatever way works best.
My website content writing services start at £96+VAT per website page.
Before writing your website content I research your competition, keywords and goals and combine all of that information into SEO friendly content. You may also choose to utilise my SEO services to really get the most out of your website.
I only offer website copywriting when I am building my client’s website. This is because I influence both the structure, design and content of the website ensuring everything is entirely cohesive.
I will conduct keyword research before starting your website copywriting and include relevant keywords naturally where possible.
Your website may be 95% of the way to being a success pending a few tweaks. Or, it may benefit from an overhaul. My website consultancy service can help point you in the right direction.
On occasions I can meet in person, but, honestly, it’s much more efficient and effective to do it all via a video call. We can share screens, navigate the website as a potential customers and get right into the consultation process, rather than faffing around with laptop screens in person.
Yes. I can take over the hosting and ongoing maintenance of an existing WordPress website, even if it was originally built by another freelancer or agency.
I will first check the website, plugins, theme and hosting setup so I can identify any problems before moving it onto one of my maintenance plans.
My maintenance service is not just hosting; that’s just one fragment of the full maintenance service. In the table above you’ll see all of the other critical services that are rolled into my maintenance service. You get a lot of services and peace of mind for a good price.
I can host and maintain the website so you don’t have to worry about a thing related to your website.
Nope, it’s totally optional. However, I’d say around 95% of my clients do opt for this service as it benefits them by saving them time and stress.
There are no cancellation fees. The only fees that may be included are for my time if you request that I move your site to your new hosting provider.
My servers are located in London, England.
Every plan includes managed WordPress hosting, an SSL certificate, regular backups, WordPress core updates, theme and plugin updates, security measures, uptime monitoring and direct support from me. Higher-level plans include more frequent updates and additional time for website changes.
My WordPress hosting and maintenance plans start from £45+VAT per month. The right package depends on how frequently you want the website checked and updated, and whether you would like time included for content or design changes.
Yes. Your website is backed up regularly, with recent copies retained according to the package you choose. This means the website can usually be restored if an update, error or other issue causes a problem.
Yes. I can migrate an existing WordPress website onto my hosting as part of setting up your maintenance service. I will first check the website and current setup to identify any potential migration issues.
Yes. Uptime monitoring is included, helping me identify if your website becomes unavailable. No monitoring service can prevent every outage, but it means problems can often be identified and investigated more quickly.
SEO stands for “search engine optimisation.” In its simplest form, SEO means the process of improving your website to increase its visibility on Google, Microsoft Bing, and other search engines when people search for your products or services.
As much as I’d love to give you a definitive cost right here, it’d be silly of me to do that. Every business needs a unique approach to SEO. However, I can say that on average most of my SEO clients pay between £288+VAT – £480+VAT/month for their bespoke SEO packages.
My SEO services are on a monthly rolling basis. I just ask for 30 days’ notice of cancellation. My clients retain my services based on high rankings and website traffic. I’ve never had a client want to cancel their SEO services (to date) – I must be doing something good, right?
Maybe, but is that always necessary? That may sound like an odd question. But, what I mean by that is what phrase do you want to be #1 for? Is that the right sort of phrase to be targeting?
For example, if you’re an accountancy firm wanting to rank #1 for “accountancy services UK”, not only is that a massive challenge, it’s just not an efficient way to go about SEO. Why not try to rank for local phrases such as “accountancy services Norwich”, “accountancy services Kings Lynn”, etc? The competition is lower and the people searching for these phrases are ultra-relevant.
No. Any decent SEO will not offer you a guarantee. Search engines such as Google explicitly warn companies not to work with SEOs that offer guarantees. Google also notes that “no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google” and warns companies to “beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings”.
There is no fixed answer to how long it’ll take you to see SEO results, however, in my experience, most clients start to see a decent impact within 3-6 months.
That said, I’ve ranked websites #1 within 3 weeks, and on the other hand, it’s taken me 6 months to get a website on the first page of Google. It depends on your online competition and many other factors.
I only take on SEO clients where I am able to build (or rebuild) their website, write their website’s content and provide SEO services following this. This means the foundations are perfect; the website is fast, optimised for conversions and written with SEO in mind from day 1.
I provide SEO services to local businesses and businesses providing a service in both B2B and B2C.
I do not provide SEO services for:
- Adult websites
- Gambling
- Online shops (e-commerce)
There’s a very good chance that when you stop doing SEO on your website your website’s search engine rankings will drop.
This is due to 2 main factors:
- Your competitors will fight back: When your website climbs the rankings your competitors will fight back with their own SEO efforts. So stopping your SEO means your competitors can catch up and leapfrog your website.
- Google and other search engines update their algorithms: The parameters and algorithms which determine where your website ranks in the search engines are changing all the time. Stopping SEO means your website will not stay up to date with these algorithms.
I can’t comment on what your previous SEO consultant did and why it did or didn’t work. But, what makes me different to many SEO experts is that I don’t just optimise your website for search engines. I’ll build your website, write the content and then rank it on Google with SEO. I provide a full, cohesive service.
My SEO payments are taken on the 1st of every month via direct debit. My SEO services are on a monthly rolling basis. I just ask for 30 days’ notice of cancellation.
No. A website cannot be optimised in ‘one go’ as Google and other search engines are always changing their guidelines and your competitors will also be working on their SEO over time. That said, some SEO improvements can be made in a short span of time.
If you don’t do any SEO your website will most likely be hard for your customers to find and remain deep in the search result pages.
If your goal is to drive traffic to your website in the short term, you might choose to focus on Google Ads.
If you want to enhance your business’s online visibility in the long run and get free traffic, SEO is the answer.
I host and maintain your website as part of my website maintenance services.
